“THE LIBRARY IS WORKING OUT GREAT. DEMCO LIBRARY INTERIORS MADE SURE WE GOT WHAT WE WANTED, AND THE STUDENTS ARE FINE WITH IT.”
- Mark Brockmayer, Librarian
Central High is the oldest high school in Iowa City, and it serves a fast-growing part of its county. “It has high visibility,” says the DEMCO Library Interiors’ representative for what turned out to be a major renovation and re-supply plan.
In the competition for this large project, DLI provided design, drawings, product samples, and color choices. “We won the bid and later learned that the choice was based on quality and service,” the representative reports.
For the project, DLI helped make final product choices, provided delivery and installation, and coordinated the completion of the interior for Central High’s large second floor library.
The product list included extensive shelving– natural oak finished veneer units at various heights with cappuccino-colored steel shelves. Other items were color-coordinated and included: periodical display and newspaper racks and computer stations.
“It turned out to be beautiful, but scheduling was a real challenge,” says the DLI representative. The deadline was set for late September and lots of construction work needed to be done.

The challenge came when the construction company fell behind on due dates. It happened three times, so delivery dates had to change three times. After each change, the representative had to negotiate space for storage. And to preserve the librarian’s budget, DLI did not charge for the costs of that storage.
After the delays, DLI had one week to deliver and install in order to meet the deadline date at the end of September. “The installation went well,” reports the DLI representative.
“You guys did a good job of handling the rescheduling,” says Librarian Mark Brockmayer, “And we didn’t have to worry about coordination of supplies either. DLI did it all.”
